Christmas Card - Snow Tree Star - 10 Cards

$22.50

This Christmas card shows a snow-laden evergreen topped by a shining star. Above and behind the tree lies the velvety blue of late evening spangled with white sparks. Beneath the tree the ground is thickly blanketed with snow. Wisps of cloud behind the tree wreath the background in white. Behind the clouds could be more forest, but as far as we can see the tree stands alone, pointing heavenward, as the star reminds us of the star the wise men followed to Him who had been born king of the Jews.

Christmas trees came from Germany as a tradition in the English-speaking world, as shown by the quote inside the card, attributed to "Anon. The Christmas Tree 1857". Under a "Merry Christmas" in elaborate green capitals, the text reads: "It was the first tree of the kind that I and my companions had ever seen. It was quite a new-fashion the Christmas Tree; and my brother Tom, who had just come home from Germany, had superintended its getting up and decoration."
